Rach Talk!!!

Hey it's A Chick, aka Rach!!

So I was thinking I would do a new segment called "Rach Talk." Each week or so I will post random shit that I'm thinking about and rant, psh or I mean talk about it here…
So without further a do let's get this started...
*Drum Roll Please*
*Taps virtual mic*
I know you're at the edge of your seat...

Let's talk stereotypes. You may be asking yourself, how does this have anything to do with books? And isn't this supposed to be a book blog and not some place where you use this blog as a platform for therapy?! Well that is a good question dear reader (if anyone’s there)! Ha!

Well in the romance community there is a certain stereotype or stigma that’s always in the background. It creeps up on the lovers of all things romance. It makes some feel guilty in the night!
Where we feel the need to hide our books in weird places such as laundry hampers (true story, don't ask!) or feel ashamed of reading them in public. When we shouldn't! Why should we feel ashamed of reading something we love or that makes us feel alive?! Why are romance novels so looked down on by some? Because what's so wrong with having some happiness and romance, when life can be filled with so little!
I mean what's wrong with a stay at home mom reading 50 Shades of Grey because it's her way of feeling sexual again? Or it's her way of escaping the chaos of life for 5 seconds.
Or maybe it's because the lonely girl's friends are the only ones in her books.
Why are us as woman looked down on because the novels we love so much are not seen as novels?!

I was talking to a girl the other day about her favorite literature and she was saying how much she loved a good romance novel but she said that didn’t count because it wasn’t a “real novel.”

(Insert my mouth on the floor)

And that got me to thinking, why are romance novels seen as not “real?” What makes them any less a part of literature?
The truth of the matter is that romance novels are one of the key selling genres in the market. Not because they aren’t “real” but because they are! “Smut” or erotica novels, the ones that have, *GASP* sex in them, are one of the key selling books in the market; the so called “taboo books.”
And why have these books with sex, become some sort of thing to be ashamed of?! Well wake up world! People have a ton of sex and write about it, it’s life! *GASP* *inserted sarcasm*

I personally think romance novels are empowering for women! The heroines in the novels we love so much bring out our inner sexual prowess’! LOL.
And the men. WOWSER. From hot billionaires (Hello, Christian Grey!!) to rugged cowboys! *Howdy never looked so good!*

And romance novels are about life! And life has all these things! Love, sex, heartbreak and all of the above (hot guys!)
And there is NOTHING wrong with them.
And most of all there is NOTHING to be ashamed of!

So ladies pull out your smut and proudly read it in the airports, your homes or church < wait! Maybe not there…> :p
Stop feeling guilty and wave those lovely novels proudly!
